Slow Mobile Growth?
Mobile sales are growing, but the growth isn't rapid. Why?
Many people feel it's too hard to shop on a small mobile screen. Too many retailers don't have sites specifically designed for mobile and users have to constantly play with type and image sizes to reap the benefits.
Fears of mobile payments not being secure is also a hindrance to greater sales. Mobile is more secure than many realize, but it will take a while to convince the majority of mobile users to be comfortable with it. When PC sites first established ecommerce, people were reluctant at first to type in credit card numbers.
While mobile purchases are growing faster than online sales (increasing 10% a year), sales are still a small percentage overall. But this will increase as people become more comfortable with using mobile.
But unless retailers create sites that work on mobile devices and are easy to read and actually use, mobile commerce will remain on a slow growth path.
