Google's announcement that it was purchasing Motorola's Mobile Phone division is being heralded as a way for Google's Android operating system to compete on the same level as Apple's iOS for the iPhone.
But what will be the effect on Motorola's competitors who also offer the Android operating system? Will manufacturers like HTC, Samsung and LG feel that Motorola will now have an advantage in getting updates from Google?
Will these handset makers now abandon Android and head to Microsoft to install that company's mobile operating system?
No one knows for sure, and the deal hasn't yet closed.
