There are several types of mobile devices out there: E-readers, Tablets, and smartphones.
What is interesting is that each type of device seems to have a distinctive age group associated with it.
Boomers prefer E-readers (the Kindle, Nook, etc.) Gen Xers prefer the tables (iPad, and others). Millenials are the ones who prefer the smartphones.
So if you are thinking of creating a mobile site for your winery, you definitely will need a tablet version and a smartphone version (No word when a Kindle might become wine buying friendly.)
Boomers (50 to 64 years of age) own 8.2 million e-readers. That's out of 58.6 million boomers. And many more plan on buying them. Presumably when they order wine, they go to your website.
Gen Xers, 30 to 49 years old prefer the tablets. 9% OF Gen Xers own one and 24% plan on buying one. Men are more likely to own tablets than women.
Millenials, the under 30 crowd, prefers smartphones. 54% own one and another 18% plan on buying one.
So you can't get by with just one type of site, or even two. You need them all (website, tablets, and smartphones) to reach all your customers and potential customers.
